With production set to start later this month, Black Adam has added yet another member to it’s all-star cast, as 13-year-old Canadian-American actor and activist of Egyptian heritage Bodhi Sabongui has been cast in an undisclosed role.
Sabongui has previously appeared in spots on The CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, ABC’s A Million Little Things, and Netflix’s The Babysitters Club, but Black Adam is set to be his first major film role. This is a major step in his acting career, and may become a solid jumping off place for his activist work in areas ranging from Black Lives Matter to gender equality to LGBTQ+ rights. Although we do not yet know his role in the film, it has been promised to be key to Black Adam and the DC Universe.
As the second film from New Line/DC, following their 2019 hit Shazam!, Black Adam already has announced a truly all-star cast including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, and, of course, Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Given the secrecy surrounding the film, the mystery roles and the fact that, in the DC Universe, Shazam and Black Adam are archrivals, it should be interesting to see exactly where Black Adam’s plot will take us. This is particularly interesting given that Shazam!‘s sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is set to release in 2023, just a year after Black Adam‘s July 29, 2022 release date.
Unfortunately, all we can do for now is wait and hope that someone to drop a breadcrumb about what Sabongui’s role will be.
