‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Introduces Lemar Hoskins aka Battlestar

TELEVISIONDISNEY+'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' Introduces Lemar Hoskins aka Battlestar

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s latest episode “The Star-Spangled Man” had quite a few introductions of comic characters, one of them being Lemar Hoskins aka Battlestar.

In the series, Hoskins (portrayed by Clé Bennett) is a fellow soldier that works alongside John Walker — the new Captain America — as his partner Battlestar. Given the fact that neither John nor Lemar seemed to be able to do much against the Super Soldier Flag-Smashers, he seems to be a regular soldier at this point outside of his suit and gear.

In the comics, Lemar was also a soldier and a friend of John Walker, and the two gained their powers and enhanced strength from the Power Broker process. Whereas John became Super-Patriot for a time, Lemar was a part of the Bold Urban Commandos — the “Buckies.” Once John went on to become Captain America, Lemar joined him and adopted the identity of Bucky. His mantle was later changed to Battlestar because of the negative racial connotations of the name for a Black man. It’s also worth noting that there’s an entire storyline in the comics where Battlestar teams up with Steve Rogers to rescue John Walker from the Flag-Smasher.

Though it remains to be seen if Lemar and John will gain powers of their own, the Power Broker has been confirmed to exist in the series, for what it’s worth.
