Rachel Zegler of ‘West Side Story’ Joins ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’
As originally reported by The Wrap, actress Rachel Zegler has joined the sequel to the hit film Shazam! in an undisclosed role. Shazam: Fury of the Gods will continue the story of Billy Batson/Shazam from the first film, with Zachary Levi set to reprise his role alongside Asher Angel. There is no word yet one who Zegler will play, but The Wrap reports that it is a “key role” in the film. Zegler confirmed the news in a tweet soon after The Wrap published its exclusive report.
Zegler is best known for playing Maria in Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of the classic musical West Side Story, which is her first professional role. That film was delayed a full year due to COVID-19 and will now premiere on December 10, 2021. Zegler is also known for her viral covers of popular songs, with her cover of “Shallow” from A Star is Born catapulting her into notoriety as a high schooler.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods is currently set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
