For the past 20 years, the American Film Institute Awards have celebrated artists with one goal in mind — community, rather than competition. The full list of 2020 honorees was announced back at the end of January, which included 10 movies of the year, 10 television programs of the year, and one AFI special award.
The AFI Movie Club, a global, virtual gathering created by the AFI for those who love movies, has spent the month of February providing film enthusiasts with exclusive content every day celebrating each of the 2020 honorees. You can learn more about the AFI Movie Club here.
Today’s feature was dedicated to one of the AFI’s selected top 10 television programs — The Mandalorian. This live-action Star Wars series, which is exclusive to Disney+, premiered its epic second season late last year. The Mandalorian follows the travels of a bounty hunter as he traverses the outer reaches of galaxy in the wake of the Empire’s rule. The show was met with well-deserved critical acclaim immediately after its first season, and it is now paving the way for future Star Wars television projects that are on the horizon.
The AFI kicked off the announcement of today’s honoree with an intro from the Mandalorian himself — Pedro Pascal.
Today’s AFI Movie Club interview featured the creator of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau. Favreau talked about shooting the first episode of season 2, the unbelievable surprise in the season finale, and more.
