‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ Earns Eight Critics Choice Nominations Including Best Picture
The film nominations for the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards are in, and leading the charge with nominated films is the streaming giant Netflix. Included among those films with high nomination counts is Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is set in 1927 Chicago, during a recording session where tension surfaces between Ma Rainey (Davis), her ambitious horn player Levee (Boseman), and white management determined to control Ma. The film was adapted by Ruben Santiago-Hudson from the August Wilson play.
