Each year, The Great British Baking Show (The Great British Bake Off in the UK) hosts special episodes featuring celebrities in order to raise awareness and funds for Stand Up to Cancer.
Channel 4 has announced the 20 celebrities that will be participating in the special episodes that will be coming to the UK sometime this spring. This year the show has outdone itself, with stars including Daisy Ridley (Star Wars), James McAvoy (X-Men, His Dark Materials), and Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall. There will be five episodes of The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off, where each episode will see four celebrities compete in three baking challenges: the signature challenge, the technical challenge, and the showstopper challenge. They will be judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in order to win the coveted star baker apron. Matt Lucas is also returning to host the competition.
Stand Up To Cancer is a national fundraising campaign from Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK aimed to help progress life-saving cancer research. Since beginning in 2012, the campaign has raised £62 million. You can donate by visiting the Stand Up To Cancer website.
The episodes usually combine a great show and great celebrities, with amazing disasters since many of the celebrities cannot bake well at all! We can’t wait to check out these episodes!
