As we continue into this year’s rather delayed award season, the Film Independent Spirit Award nominations have been announced ahead of the April 22 award show. The nominees were announced on YouTube by Olivia Wilde, Barry Jenkins, and Laverne Cox, closely followed by Twitter announcements via the Film Independent official account. This year the Spirit Awards will see a few changes from the norm. First, the 36th annual awards ceremony will air Thursday, April 22 at 10 p.m. ET, in a break from the show’s usual live daytime spot the day before the Oscars. Also, this year the Spirit Awards will be, for the first time, recognizing achievements in TV and streaming instead of just feature films. However, as always, winners of Spirit Awards will be voted on by members of Film Independent. So, if you’re interested in making your voice heard for these awards you can join here by February 11 to receive award screeners and other benefits.
