Deadline is reporting that MGM has tapped Lovecraft Country creator/writer/director Misha Green to direct the upcoming sequel to Tomb Raider. The film will mark Green’s feature film directorial debut.

The upcoming sequel will be produced by Graham King and Elizabeth Cantillon. Alicia Vikander is confirmed to reprise her role as Lara Croft. There are currently no further details regarding plot or casting.

Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander, released in 2018 as a reboot to the films starring Angelina Jolie, adapted from the Tomb Raider video game. It follows Lara Croft, a woman who must push herself to the limits to find her father after discovering the island where he initially went missing.

Along with Lovecraft Country, Green has shared her talents with other recognizable projects. Most notably, she was a creator/writer/producer on WGN’s Underground, she was a staff writer on episodes of FX’s Sons of Anarchy, and she served as producer and writer on SYFY’s Helix. We can’t wait to see what she brings to the table with Tomb Raider!
