Set in Chicago 1927, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom follows Ma Rainey, “the Mother of Blues,” during a recording session when tension begins to form between her, her horn player Levee, and white management determined to control her. It stars Viola Davis, the late Chadwick Boseman, Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, Glynn Turman, Dusan Brown, and Taylour Paige. The screenplay is adapted by Ruben Santiago-Hudson from the August Wilson play and directed by George C. Wolfe.
