Danai Gurira has locked down another project. According to Deadline, the actor — well-known for her roles as Okoye in Black Panther and Michonne in The Walking Dead — is set to star in a feature film about Shirley Chisholm. She is taking over the role from Viola Davis, who was originally attached to the project in 2018. The film will be directed by Cherien Dabis (Ramy), with the screenplay by Adam Countee.

The Fighting Shirley Chisholm will primarily focus on Shirley Chisholm’s campaign to be the presidential candidate for the Democratic party, making her the first Black woman and person of color to seek a nomination from a major political party. She was also the first Black woman elected to Congress.

There’s currently no word on who else will join Gurira in the biopic. Stay tuned for more updates.
