Jessica Chastain Replaces Michelle Williams in ‘Scenes from a Marriage’ With Oscar Isaac
Earlier this year, it was announced that a limited series adaption of Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 classic Swedish Television miniseries Scenes from a Marriage is coming to HBO.
Bergman’s original series chronicles 10 years in the lives of a couple named Marianne and Johan as they struggle with love and turmoil in the midst of matrimony, infidelity, divorce, and subsequent partners. The new adaption, which will be written, directed, and executive produced by Hagai Levi (Our Boys, The Affair), will shed a new light on these trials and tribulations of marriage through the experiences of a contemporary American couple.
Michelle Williams was initially cast as a lead alongside Oscar Isaac, but she recently dropped out of the project due to scheduling issues. It has been announced that Jessica Chastain will be replacing her.
Chastain and Isaac, longtime friends, previously played husband and wife in the 2014 drama A Most Violent Year. It will be exciting to see the two reunite on the big screen once more in what promises to be an emotional and gripping story.
