Greenlit by HBO, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in and executively produce the limited series adaption of Jo Nesbø’s novel The Son. Described as a story of vengeance that takes place during Oslo’s extremely brutal hierarchy of corruption, the story follows Sonny Loftus, an escaped convict with an opioid addiction that can’t recall his past, but during his time on the run from the law, he unknowingly runs toward truth.

Alongside Gyllenhaal, Denis Villeneuve is set to direct as well as executive produce. This marks the duo’s third team up after their time together on 2013’s back-to-back films Enemy and Prisoners. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are also signed on to executive produce the series.
