The Doctor Who: Time War audio drama series is coming to a close today with the release of its fourth volume. After facing The Daleks, The Dalek Time Strategist, and The Twelve, The Eighth Doctor is up against Davros himself.

Paul McGann and Terry Molloy are back as The Doctor and Davros. They are joined by Rahkee Thakrar (Bliss), Isla Blair (Charn), Chris Jarman (Rasmus), Adèle Anderson (Major Tamasan), Ken Bones (the General), Julia McKenzie (the Twelve), Jemima Rooper (Mithia) and Nicholas Briggs (the Daleks).

Doctor Who:The Time War volume 4 is directed by Helen Goldwyn and produced by David Richardson. You can read the synopsis below:

The Time War rages through space and time – two powerful enemies in a fight to the death. The Doctor keeps to the fringes of the conflict, helping where he can. He is not a warrior. Not yet. But this war takes no prisoners, and friends and enemies are drawing the Doctor ever closer to his destiny.

In an alternative universe, Davros lives in peace, until the Doctor and Bliss arrive, and the Daleks emerge in a new reality

The Time Lords, including the General and the Twelve, adjust to life after the Time War, until the Doctor and Bliss return with a warning.

Restoration of the Daleks by Matt Fitton

The Dalek Time Strategist restores the Dalek armies to the universe, but wants to dispense with Davros.

Actor Paul McGann said:

“I now quite like the Doctor Who stories where there’s not so much running down corridors, away from the monsters, and explosions, and everything else. Maybe it’s a time of life thing? I quite like the ones where it’s a bit more considered, a bit quieter, closer to mic.“When you first look at the scripts, as a performer, often the first skim you make you think, Oh yeah, there’s a good scene! Immediately, stuff jumps out at you – the dynamism of things, not just the plots. That’s what I’m like. These stories are rich and very playable.”

Actor Terry Molloy added:

“There is a definite thrum of anticipation when I open a Davros script, as I’m always in awe of what new devilment the writers have come up with. It is good (and rightly so) to see Davros involved in the machinations of the Time War and in ways that may not initially be obvious. The creativity of the writers does not in any way disappoint!“This was the last studio recording I did before lockdown confined me to my home and working alone. The camaraderie and atmosphere of the studio is always a delight for me and it was lovely to be paired up with Paul McGann once more.”

Doctor Who: The Time War volume 4 is now available to purchase as a five-disc collector’s edition CD box set and as a digital download, exclusively from the Big Finish website. Listeners can also buy a bundle with the four volumes of the series.
