Director Garth Davis Joins Jared Leto In Disney’s ‘TRON’ Sequel
Ten years after TRON: Legacy hit theaters, Deadline has announced that director Garth Davis will helm the next film in the series. The sequel starring Jared Leto has been in the works since 2017 but has been in development since Leto first signed on. TRON: Legacy was a sequel to the original TRON, the cult classic released back in 1982. Disney has not confirmed whether the third TRON will reboot the franchise or continue the story from the first two films.
TRON was not a huge box office success when it first premiered, but its cult status convinced Disney to make TRON: Legacy. The series has also spun off into an animated series called TRON: Uprising for Disney XD. Disney also created a major attraction based on the films at Shanghai Disneyland titled TRON: Lightcycle Power Run that will arrive stateside in Walt Disney World in 2021.
