The dark comedy thriller Spree that is directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko and stars Joe Keery (Stranger Things), David Arquette (Scream), and Sasheer Zamata (I Feel Pretty), officially has a trailer! In the video, we get a first glimpse at Keery’s character Kurt Kunkle, the Spree rideshare driver who terrorizes his customers because he is determined to go viral and become a top influencer. When Kurt runs into comedian Jessie (Zamata), all of that changes, as she is hell-bent on getting him to put an end to his murderous ways.
In a statement, Kotlyarenko said,
‘Spree’ is a movie I’ve been yearning to share with the world for a long time. As a satire of an influencer culture gone mad and the numbing violence that characterizes modern day America, I hope it can offer a new window of critique into some of our society’s most frightening maladies.
He goes on to say that the film takes inspiration from films like To Die For, Taxi Driver, American Psycho, and Network while:
… blending them with Gen Z culture, the movie aims to tackle the frightening epidemic of violence in our society and link it to our desperate need for attention. With a unique, cringeworthy characterization at its core and a fresh cinematic language, I hope that Spree will shine a new light on the disturbing and absurd nature of our thirsty culture and the monsters that it can create.
Also part of the star-studded cast is Kyle Mooney (Brigsby Bear, Zoolander 2), Mischa Barton (The O.C.), Frankie Grande (Indoor Boys, Henry Danger), John DeLuca (Teen Beach Movie), and LaLa Kent (Vault, 10 Minutes Gone).
