‘Cinderella is Dead’ Author Kalynn Bayron Doing a Virtual Discussion with Book People

Kalynn Bayron’s YA novel Cinderella is Dead was released today, and usually now would be when the book tour dates get announced. Unfortunately, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is impossible to hold those types of in-person events. But don’t worry, a local book store in Austin, Texas, Book People, will host a virtual event on Zoom.

The Cinderella is Dead virtual event will be on July 23 at 6 p.m. CT, with the digital doors opening at 5:45 p.m. CT. To get into the Zoom event, you will need to purchase a ticket. There are two options available to fans. The $5 ticket gets you the Zoom link, the other option is buying a copy of the book to get the link, and Bayron will sign your book. The discussion will be moderated by Chaunesey Clemmons, one of the co-hosts of the Well-Read Black Girl book club chapter.

The book takes place 200 years after Cinderella got her happily ever after. Because of that, the current King holds an Annual Ball where teens must go where the men choose a wife based on their appearance. But if you are not chosen, you disappear and are never heard from again.

That is not what 16-year-old Sophia wants; she is in love with her best friend Erin and would rather find a princess than a prince. During the ball, she escapes into the forest and ends up at Cinderella’s mausoleum and meets Constance, the last known descendant of one of the step-sisters. Now on the King’s most wanted list, Sophia and Constance go on a journey to right the wrongs of the past and create their futures, whatever it takes. You can read our review of the book here.

Don’t forget to purchase your ticket here for the virtual event!
