Netflix’s teenage rom-com The Kissing Booth, based on the novel of the same name by Beth Reekles, was first released in 2018. While the film didn’t receive a ton of positive reviews, it was still widely consumed by viewers everywhere. The movie follows Elle (Joey King), a teenager whose friendship with Lee (Joel Courtney) is in jeopardy after she starts a budding romance with high school senior and Lee’s older brother, Noah (Jacob Elordi). On Valentine’s Day last year, it was finally announced that there will be a sequel, and now fans know when to expect it.

During a live event on YouTube, King shared the news that The Kissing Booth 2 will be releasing later this summer. The livestream included call-in video guests from the film, trivia, a Q&A, and never-before-seen deleted scenes. According to Deadline, the sequel, also based on the novel, follows Elle after having the most romantic summer of her life with Noah. However, Noah is now off to Harvard while Elle heads back to high school for her senior year. Long-distance relationships, college, and new friendships are all that Elle has to juggle in the sequel.

Molly Ringwald, Meganne Young, and Carson White will also reprise their roles. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Taylor Zakhar Perez will be joining the film in new roles.

The Kissing Booth 2 releases on Netflix on Friday, July 24. Watch The Kissing Booth now to catch up before the sequel comes out.
