“For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice…” – Obi-Wan Kenobi
Lucasfilm’s mysterious Project Luminous, originally teased at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in 2019, has finally been revealed as a new publishing campaign that will begin this year — Star Wars: The High Republic!
Star Wars: The High Republic is a project that will span across books and comics to tell a cohesive story set in the High Republic Era, 200 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It will focus on a time when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order were in their prime; the Jedi of this era can essentially be described as Jedi Knights of the Round Table.
The project began to set its roots back in 2018, when a creative team of authors, the Lucasfilm Publishing editorial team, and the Lucasfilm Story Group were taken to Skywalker Ranch in California to begin brainstorming. The timeline of the High Republic Era does not overlap any current filmed features or series planned for production, which has given the writers a blank slate and endless creative freedom to create a rich and exciting new tale from a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars: The High Republic stories will come in multiple reading formats, including adult and young adult novels, children’s books, and comics. Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, IDW Publishing, and Marvel are just a few of the publishing companies that will be involved in the project.
