First Photos Released from Upcoming Netflix Series ‘Self Made’

Netflix has released new photos from their upcoming limited series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker. Walker, portrayed by Octavia Spencer, was the first female African-American, self-made millionaire. The four episode series is based on a book written by Walker’s great-great-granddaughter, A’Leila Bundles, titled On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker. Self Made will follow the true story of Walker overcoming discrimination and betrayal to become a successful businesswoman, social activist, and hair care pioneer.

Blair Underwood joins Spencer as Walker’s husband C. J., and Kevin Carroll will appear as her lawyer, Freeman Ransom. Also joining the cast are Tiffany Haddish, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris, and Bill Bellamy.
