YouTubers We Love: Shane Dawson

In this installment of YouTubers We Love, I want to bring everyone’s attention to one of the YouTube alums still going strong. Shane Dawson has been on YouTube since 2008 and has a growing subscriber count of 22.9 million. When Shane first started, a vast majority of his videos were centered around comedy. In the past year and a half, his channel has shifted into more documentary pieces that still have an essence of comedy, but also touch on bigger controversies.

While some of Shane’s series are anywhere from two to eight parts on his channel, there are videos sprinkled in between the series that show just how far he has come in the past couple of years. Shane used to sit in front of his camera eating food and trying weird products and now quite a bit of his videos are over 45 minutes to an hour long, even the stand alone videos. He is also not afraid to get into the nitty gritty of stuff — even if it involves someone he cares for. Some of the series mentioned above have been collaborations alongside Jake Paul, Tana Paul (Mongeau) and Jeffree Star to name a few. There is even a video where he surprises his mom with Kathy Griffin.

Currently Dawson is editing and uploading his second series with makeup mogul/influencer Jeffree Star of Jeffree Star Cosmetics. This series, titled “The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star,” follows Dawson’s and Star’s collaboration on a makeup collection that is set to be released this November. It takes a completely different look at the creation of a collection as viewers get to see what really goes into making a collection, from first product meetings to naming shades to color swatching and, judging by the previews of episodes five and six, the marketing side as well. Dawson and Star have been filming this new series since January of this year alongside Andrew Siwicki, Dawson’s cameraman and editor. Siwicki has been apart of Dawson’s channel for over a year now and in Dawson’s words “have changed the game” of his channel.

What I really think draws people to Shane Dawson’s channel is how authentic he is. He is showing a huge portion of his life to his viewers and is always loving and supportive. He shows people that stepping out of your comfort zone sometimes lets you create some amazing things, but also being true to yourself is the best way to go. In my honest opinion, Shane Dawson is just getting started and we are going to see him go even further and climb higher than ever before.

Be sure to check out his channel and check out his first ever collection with Jeffree Star Cosmetics launching this Friday, November 1 at 10 a.m PT.
