After teasing fans for days with cryptic photos and an increased social media presence, Harry Styles delivered his new single “Lights Up” along with a video on October 11, which also happened to be National Coming Out Day. The song, a confident departure from his 70s infused debut album, Harry Styles, marks a new phase in Styles’ musical evolution for his new album, called “HS2” by his fans.

The song “Lights Up” follows months of anticipation for Styles fans, after his Rolling Stone cover in September discussed new music. Billboards featuring the phrase “Do You Know Who You Are?” and “TPWK” (Treat People With Kindness), which features in Styles’ tour merchandise, emerged in London and New York, fueling speculation that the new single would arrive soon. A mysterious website inviting fans to enter their name for a compliment from Harry soon appeared. The website’s title, doyouknowwhoyouare.com, corresponds to lyrics from the new song.

Styles’ first album topped charts internationally, debuting at number 1 in the US and the UK. He also won the Brit Award for Best Male Video in 2017 for “Sign of the Times,” his first solo single after his break from One Direction. Styles’ second album has gotten speculated as being released this fall, but no official date or title as of yet.
