‘The Secret Commonwealth’ by Philip Pullman Out Today
The second volume of The Book of Dust trilogy by Philip Pullman is out today!
This trilogy is part of the world created in Philip Pullman’s beloved trilogy His Dark Materials. The first book, called La Belle Sauvage, is a prequel of His Dark Materials and took place 10 years before the events of the first trilogy and the introduction of the heroine, Lyra Belacqua.
In the second book, The Secret Commonwealth, the story happens 20 years after the end of La Belle Sauvage and follows Lyra as an adult with new challenges and adventures.
You can read the synopsis here:
The second volume of Philip Pullman’s The Book of Dust sees Lyra, now twenty years old, and her daemon Pantalaimon, forced to navigate their relationship in a way they could never have imagined, and drawn into the complex and dangerous factions of a world that they had no idea existed.
Pulled along on his own journey too is Malcolm; once a boy with a boat and a mission to save a baby from the flood, now a man with a strong sense of duty and a desire to do what is right.
Theirs is a world at once familiar and extraordinary, and they must travel far beyond the edges of Oxford, across Europe and into Asia, in search for what is lost – a city haunted by daemons, a secret at the heart of a desert, and the mystery of the elusive Dust.
HBO and BBC are producing a television adaptation of His Dark Materials, which is set to premiere this November. You can see the trailer here.
The Secret Commonwealth is published by Penguin Books and is available as hardcover, ebook and an audiobook narrated by Michael Sheen.
