‘Mickey Shorts Theater’ Announced for Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios has gotten quite the overhaul lately. Between the grand opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and all the announcements made at the D23 30th Anniversary Celebration, it’s nothing short of amazing that the Disney Parks Blog managed to squeeze in another update today:

“Joining the park’s theater district will be a reimagined venue, the ‘Mickey Shorts Theater.’ What will it feature? You’ll just have to stay tooned to find out!”

Not much is known, but here’s what we know so far.

1. The Theater District Encompasses Echo Lake

Echo Lake, otherwise fondly known as “The Loop,” is where most of the theater district is. If you were walking into Hollywood Studios, it’d be to the left of Center Stage, and home to attractions like For the First Time in Forever: A ‘Frozen’ Sing-Along CelebrationIndiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

2. Mickey Shorts Theater is Taking Over Star Wars: Path of the Jedi

Now that Galaxy’s Edge is open at the end of Grand Avenue, perhaps it makes sense a Star Wars attraction located in the theater district would transform into something following the theme of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Besides, after Path of the Jedi’s regression into a seasonal-then-closed operation in 2018, it seems like the obvious choice for a new attraction spot.

3. It’ll Play Mickey Cartoon Shorts (possibly)

With the name including “shorts” and a “stay tooned” wink, it all adds up. That’s without mentioning the fact that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is based on the recent Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts first released in 2013.

Keep an eye out for more news about the Mickey Shorts Theater on the Disney Parks Blog.
