Julie Andrews to Star In New Shonda Rhimes Series

The name Shonda Rhimes is synonymous with quality television. She has a healthy pedigree for evocative, binge-worthy shows such as Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy.  Rhimes has been flexing her creative muscles at ABC Network for more than a decade, yet in the summer of 2017 it was announced that she had entered into an exclusive deal with Netflix.  All her current shows such as Grey’s will remain at ABC but future projects would be part of the Netflix catalog.

Rhimes currently has eight series in production for the streaming giant and one of them, Brigerton, just cast Academy Award winner Julie Andrews who will star as Lady Whistledown, a gossip writer who uses her sharp wit and even sharper tongue to keep all of London High Society abuzz with the latest scandals.

The series has gotten an eight-episode initial run and takes its name from the series of novels written by Julia Quinn. The Brigerton novels take place in the early 1800’s and center around the high society marriage mart of Regency London. The exploits of the Brigerton family are front and center as the eight siblings try to find love and adventure while navigating the fickle world of the marriage mart.

It sounds like the series is off to an astounding start with the addition of Andrews, whose latest project was last years box office smash, Aquaman. The series is set to air on Netflix sometime in 2020.
