The National Speech & Debate Tournament is coming to Dallas, TX on June 20-21 and Jared Padalecki will be a special guest! Described as the largest academic tournament in the world, middle school and high school students from around the country will compete in a variety of speech and debate events. Debate participants will argue with their fellow competitors on topics ranging from social policy and legislation, to economics and the environment. Students in the speech categories will display their speaking and performing talents in events that include prose, poetry, dramatic interpretation, and informative speaking. More than 10,000 students, educators, and parents from over 3500 schools will be in attendance.

Jared was a participant in the 1998 National Tournament where he and his partner were champions in the Duo Interpretation category. Along with other famous actors, politicians, and public figures, Jared is listed by The National Speech and Debate Association as one of their many alumni who have “risen to the pinnacle of their respective fields”.

Amanda is a mental health counselor by day and a nerd by night. She’s been fangirling since 1989 when she had so many New Kids On The Block posters in her bedroom that she ran out of wall space and had to put them on her ceiling. She finds people and stories fascinating and even went to film school years ago. The journey from film to Social Work is a long, depressing tale, but she came out the other side feeling inspired to help people. Now she’s living out that old Hollywood cliché. You know, the one where someone can’t contain their passion any longer and leaves a career in entertainment to pursue their dreams of becoming a therapist in the Midwest. She’s not a filmmaker anymore but she is a fan. Her favorite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes, and musicals. She loves Supernatural, New Kids On The Block (duh), and comes from a family of Star Trek nerds. She might also be a little obsessed with her cats.
