Warner Brothers has officially announced a sequel to its blockbuster, Aquaman, but we won’t be seeing more of the King of the Seven Seas for a while. The official release date has been reported as Dec. 16, 2022, nearly four years after the release of the first film which debuted Dec. 21, 2018. This news comes after a spin-off of the film was announced earlier this month called The Trench set to focus on the.mysterious inhabitants of the Trench portrayed in the first film.

It is no surprise  that the studio wants a follow up to Aquaman considering the incredible success at the box office, passing over $1 billion globally, making it the highest earning DCEU movie yet. What is unknown at this point is if James Wan will return to direct the sequel.

Aquaman will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD March 26.
