Universal Studios Hollywood Celebrates the Lunar New Year

This year Universal Studios Hollywood is ringing in the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Pig with themed programs featuring pop icon Hello Kitty, a Mandarin-speaking Megatron and Kung Fu Panda stars Po and Tigress. The celebration will take place Saturday, February 2 through Sunday, February 17.

Decorated with plum blossom Wish Tree and traditional red Chinese lanterns, the festivities will take place in Universal Plaza on the Kung Fu Panda Jade Palace Performance Stage. Attendees of all ages are invited to participate in the interactive Dragon Warrior Training Show with Po and his friends.

Hello Kitty and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions will also make an appearance at the celebration wearing Lunar New Year themed outfits ready to celebrate with fans. Keeping with tradition, a Mandarin-speaking Megatron will be greeting attendees as they arrive.

Universal Studios is also offering the park’s signature studio tour and the VIP experience in Mandarin. Expertly trained guides will lead guests as they provide a look at the movie-making world.

Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop will be serving culturally themed food including dragon warrior boa, secret ingredient stir-fry noodles, Po’s dumplings and oogway eggrolls. Mr. Ping will also be available for souvenir photos and interactive guest experiences.

Guests can also dine at the Universal CityWalk’s Dongpo Kitchen serving Sichuan cuisine. Vivo Italian Kitchen serves up Italian dishes and will feature a haute cuisine with menus in several languages including Mandarin.
