Warner Brothers Drops Full Color ‘Aquaman’ Stills Ahead of December Release

Ever since Jason Momoa was cast as Aquaman in the DC Universe epic Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice four years ago, fans have been buzzing about an Aquaman origin story. While filming has been ongoing since May of 2017, Warner Bros. released seven full color stills on Nov. 7 to tempt movie goers and build even more excitement for the Dec. 21 release of Aquaman.

Momoa again assumes the role of Arthur Curry, the son of Queen Atlanna, played by Nicole Kidman, and mainlander Thomas Curry, played by Temuera Morrison.

In this iteration we get the back story of how he came to be the hero of Atlantis complete with action packed fight scenes and comedic interludes. The stills depict a colorful CGI oceanic world and impressive costuming for the cast including Amber Heard as Princess Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, among several others. This is a big change for a franchise that has been widely criticized for its dark and brooding films.

Check out the extended trailer, released on Oct. 5 here and get a taste of director James Wan‘s vision for this aquatic adventure as well as the new movie stills below!
