The first official trailer for Mary Poppins Returns is finally here!
While Julie Andrews made the character famous in the 1964 classic, Emily Blunt now takes on the role of Mary Poppins, the oddball nanny with a proclivity towards magic that we all know and love. Serving as a direct sequel rather than a remake, Mary Poppins Returns takes us 25 years into the future, where we come across Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw). The Banks children are now adults with children of their own, and their livelihood is threatened with the possibility of losing their home, the original house on Cherry Tree Lane.
As if by magic, Mary Poppins drops back into their lives – via umbrella, of course – to help ease the strain placed on the family in Depression-era London. With the help of Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Topsy (Meryl Streep), she sets out on a quest to reintroduce the wonder and joy of magic into the Banks’ lives.
Mary Poppins Returns also brings in talent such as Colin Firth and Angela Lansbury, as well as the return of Dick Van Dyke, who is reprising his original role as the son of Mr. Dawes.
The trailer also includes a familiar animated sequence that serves as a wonderful throwback to the scenes we witnessed in Mary Poppins.
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters on December 19.
