This is the sixth year the Vancouver Food Bank has run “The Reel Thanksgiving Challenge”. Initially started by the BC film industry, it’s a two-week long food and fund-raising event for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
According to The Georgia Straight, Supernatural raised the most money this year, beating last year’s winners from The Man in the High Castle.
This year, Supernatural, now shooting its 14th season, came out on top by raising a whopping $40,592. For raising $32,518.75 today (October 5), the team also won $1,000 contributions each from Martini Film Studios and Sunbelt Rentals, as well as a $5,000 contribution from IATSE for raising the most funds in one day over the course of the challenge.
The goal for this year’s “The Reel Thanksgiving Challenge” was $150,000, though The Georgia Straight reports the total amount raised was actually $195,717!
The cast and crew of Supernatural had a lot of fun while raising the money for the challenge, which they shared throughout the week with videos of cast and crew members being pied in the face.
Misha Collins, who plays Castiel on Supernatural, shared this video of him sacrificing himself to raise money on Twitter.
