Jim Henson’s Epic Fantasies ‘Labyrinth’ & ‘The Dark Crystal’ Coming To Digital Early February

In collaboration with The Jim Henson Company, Shout! Studios is releasing fantasy masterpieces Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal from the prolific Henson digitally this February. Each feature film also received a new trailer and key art, which can be seen throughout this article. Those who plan to purchase digital versions will also have access to loads of legacy bonus features from each film on Apple iTunes.

The films will also be available together in a digital bundle on select platforms for the first time.

Produced by The Jim Henson Company and Lucasfilm Ltd. with creatures brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, Labyrinth was directed by Henson, who worked closely with acclaimed artist and Conceptual Designer Brian Froud and Executive Producer George Lucas to create a much beloved, mesmerizing fantasy adventure. The 1986 film stars David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, following Sarah Williams (Connelly) as she makes her way through the labyrinth of the Goblin King Jareth (Bowie) in search of her little brother Toby.

Labyrinth is considered a mainstay to the fantasy genre by fans worldwide and holds a special place in Bowie fans’ hearts as the film contains original songs written and recorded by Bowie specifically for the film.

The Dark Crystal

Again from the brilliant mind of Henson, this puppetry work tells the timeless tales of good versus evil. Directed by Henson and Frank Oz, the film features innovative animatronics and memorable characters created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop™.  Since its release in 1982, The Dark Crystal has earned a place in cinematic history as one of the must-see classics of its genre.

The synopsis for the film reads:

“Travel back in time to the faraway planet of Thra where evil Skeksis are in control and the Gelfling Jen, the last of his kind, is sent on a quest by the peaceful Mystics to find the missing shard that will restore balance and heal the world.”
