Fire & Blood Is Sought In First Teaser for ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2
The first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 has been released, showcasing 75 seconds of what’s to come with the Targaryen civil war, with Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower at the center ready to burn everything as they both seek blood for blood.
House of the Dragon is based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, which chronicles the history of the Targaryen’s reign in Westeros. The multi-volume historical account tells the story of the once great house from the beginning with Aegon the Conqueror coming to power over the Seven Kingdoms, with the series’ events primarily centered around the fifth volume — “The Dying of the Dragons.” These events come to be known as the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal years-long civil war amongst the House Targaryen that devastates the Empire and leaves the family — and dragon population — decimated.
Two new posters for the upcoming season that showcase Rhaenyra and Alicent were also released, which can be seen below.
From showrunner Ryan Condal, season 1 introduced us to the key players in the Dance and portrayed the usurpation of the Westerosi crown as carried out by Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) and his supporters for his grandson, Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney), despite Rhaenyra being named the heir to the throne by her late father Viserys I. With the major death in the finale, the war has officially begun.
The cast for season 2 also features Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, and Simon Russell Beale.
House of the Dragon season 2 premieres Summer of 2024. Episodic recaps for season 1 from Nerds & Beyond can be found here.
