Friday, June 16 is the day Outlander fans have been waiting for. The droughtlander has been long, but it will be worth it after watching this new trailer for season 7. Fans of the books should keep their eyes open for several hidden easter eggs.

The theme of this season is very clear: the American Revolution crashes into the lives of our favorite family after we left the Frasers in turmoil at the end of last season. Claire, played by Caitríona Balfe, is headed to stand trial for the murder of Malva. With Jamie, played by Sam Heughan, and young Ian, played by John Bell, on a race against time to save her, their road to rescue is complicated by the emerging tensions between the colonies and the British monarchy.

This new trailer has a haunting rendition of “Ave Maria”, sung by Balfe, as Claire follows a funeral procession. Who is in the casket will remain unanswered until the season premieres. Jamie expresses how he isn’t brave enough to live without Claire. We hear that George Washington needs troops as young Ian expresses his love for the land and willingness to fight for it. Jamie is faced with a choice. He can join the British forces and fight beside his son for a cause he doesn’t agree with, or fight against his son for his beliefs and new free land.

Brianna and Roger seem to be taking on their new roles this season as well. We see a very different-looking Roger expressing his concern as Brianna gives birth. As the trailer comes to a close, we see that Jamie has a plan in case of his death. While handing Claire a jewel, he tells her that if he dies, she needs to go back to her own time. Finally, after seasons of hinting at the fire that is recorded to kill Jamie and Claire, we see someone drop a match in the family home. As their homeland changes around them, will the revolutionary war tear the Fraser family apart? The ending of the trailer gives us a hint at Jamie’s possible fate.

Outlander will return with the first half of season 7 on Friday, June 16 at midnight on the STARZ app and all STARZ streaming platforms. New episodes will be available to stream Fridays thereafter at midnight. For more information about STARZ or Outlander check out the official website here.
