‘Happiness for Beginners’: First Look Images and Release Date

Today, it was announced that the upcoming Netflix film Happiness for Beginners will be making its way to the streaming platform in just a few short months on July 27!

Written and directed by Vicky Wight, the film is based on author Katherine Center’s 2015 novel of the same name.

“Helen (Ellie Kemper) has always lived her life as far from the edge as possible. Finding herself newly divorced and a little lost, Helen decides she needs a reset and signs up for the Adventure of a Lifetime! The adventure is a backcountry survival course hiking the Appalachian Trail with a group of oddball strangers. From the beginning, Helen’s plan to be the best hiker is tested and she finds more than just herself in the wilderness. Based on the wildly popular novel by Katherine Center, ‘Happiness for Beginners’ reminds us that sometimes you have to get lost before you’re found.”

First look photos from the film have also been revealed.

In addition to Ellie Kemper, Happiness for Beginners stars Luke Grimes (Jake), Blythe Danner (Gigi), Alexander Koch (Duncan), Shayvawn Webster (Windy), Nico Santos (Hugh), Gus Birney (Kaylee), Julia Shiplett (Sue), Esteban Benito (Mason), Ben Cook (Beckett), and Aaron Weiner (Mike).

This marks Wight’s second book adaptation from Center, the first being the 2020 film The Lost Husband (based on Center’s 2013 novel of the same name).
