‘Blue Beetle’ Trailer Introduces DC’s Newest Young Superhero
The first trailer for Blue Beetle has arrived from Warner Bros.
The trailer gives a look into the film’s titular character Jaime Reyes (played by Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña) backstory and his encounter with the alien scarab Khaji Da.
The Blue Beetle story began with an iteration that was owned by Charlton Comics DC and ended up absorbing, a war-time police officer. After that, Ted Kord became a member of the Justice League of America, using various gadgets all in the name of crime fighting. This iteration is based on Jaime Reyes, a teenager who gets his powers from an ancient Scarab built by the Reach, an alien race.
“Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.”
Blue Beetle also stars Bruna Marquezine, Harvey Guillen, George Lopez, and Susan Sarandon, among others. The film was directed by Angel Manuel Soto. John Rickard and Zev Foreman are producing, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman, and Garrett Grant serving as executive producers.
Blue Beetle releases on August 18 in theaters.
