When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light. The first official trailer for HBO’s The Last of Series has released.
Based on the popular video game of the same name, The Last of Us follows a smuggler, Joel Miller, who’s tasked with getting a 14-year-old girl named Ellie Williams out of a military quarantine zone and into the hands of the Fireflies, a group searching for a vaccine for the Cordyceps infection that has devastated mankind. The two embark on a journey west from Boston facing more than they ever anticipated from infected, humans, and each other alike. Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) stars as Joel with Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) taking on the role of Ellie.
The trailer, primarily set to A-Ha’s “Take Me On”, takes Joel and Ellie through post-apocalyptic cities and snowy mountains in the beginning of their journey. Featuring looks at familiar friends like Bill and Frank, and foes such as a notorious bloater, the just over 2-minute trailer has something for long-time fans of the franchise and newcomers to get excited for.
Joining Pascal and Ramsey in the cast are Nick Offerman as Bill, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Rutina Wesley as Maria, Nico Parker as Sarah Miller, Storm Reid as Riley, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodward as Sam, as well as the original voice actors for Joel and Ellie, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, in undisclosed roles. The series is adapted by Neil Druckmann, a co-creator of the original game, and Craig Mazin, creator of the hit mini-series Chernobyl.
The Last of Us will have nine episodes and begin airing exclusively on HBO and HBO Max Sunday, January 15 at 9 p.m. ET.
