As of part of Summer Game Fest, a new image from HBO’s upcoming drama series The Last of Us was revealed today. Additionally, fans learned that Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker — Ellie and Joel’s in-game actors, respectively — will both appear in the show in undisclosed roles.
The new glimpse at the show features Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

The series also stars Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce, and Anna Torv.
The Last of Us is based on the critically acclaimed PlayStation video game of the same name. The story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin serve as co-creators, executive producers, writers and directors on the series. A release timeline still has not been confirmed, but as per a tweet from Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is “coming soon to HBO Max.”
In addition to today’s news on the show, Naughty Dog also announced an upcoming standalone multiplayer game (with more details forthcoming next year) and a remake of the original The Last of Us for the PlayStation 5 (and in development for PC) coming September 2.
