‘Lightyear’: New Trailer Reveals Chris Evans’ Buzz Lightyear & New Details

Lightyear has released its second official trailer and with this one comes the reveal of Chris Evans’ take on Buzz Lightyear!

The first trailer featured only the musical talents of David Bowie, with “Starman” playing throughout its entirety, but Pixar has finally let Evans’ voiceover work out of the bag. Taika Waititi’s character was also finally revealed to be Mo Morrison, another member of Buzz’s crew.

Details about the plot have also finally been unearthed.

The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, Lightyear follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

The cast includes Evans as Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, Uzo Aduba as his commander and best friend Alisha Hawthorne, and Peter Sohn as Sox. Other key roles are Keke Palmer as Junior Zap Patrol’s Izzy Hawthorne, Waititi as Mo Morrison, and Dale Soules as Darby Steel, along with James Brolin as the villain, Zurg. Mary McDonald-Lewis voices the onboard computer I.V.A.N., Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Commander Burnside, Efren Ramirez as Airman Diaz, and Keira Hairston as Young Izzy. 

A brand new poster a two new images were also revealed.

The film is directed by Angus MacLane (co-director Finding Dory), produced by Galyn Susman (Toy Story That Time Forgot), with the score by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (The Batman, Up).

Lightyear premieres exclusively in theaters June 17, 2022.
