It’s happening — Matt Barr has joined the cast of the Walker prequel, Walker: Independence! Fans were hoping that somehow the actor would return to play his ancestor in the prequel, and it looks like he’s doing just that. Barr will be playing 1800’s Hoyt Rawlins in the prequel’s pilot as the male lead, which is set to start shooting soon, per Deadline.
Jared Padalecki, executive producer, and star of Walker is set to produce the series. Walker‘s showrunner, Anna Fricke, has written the teleplay alongside Walker‘s co-executive producer, Seamus Kevin Fahey. Larry Teng has also been set to executive produce, as well as direct the pilot.
TV Insider previously describes what the prequel would be like, stating, “Walker: Independence follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams. Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them while becoming agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is what it seems.”
We’re excited to see Barr back in the Walker universe!
