Hulu’s ‘The Dropout,’ led by Amanda Seyfried, Expands Its Cast

School is still in session as The Dropout, a Hulu limited tv series, adds to its cast. Dylan Minnette, Bashir Salahuddin, Alan Ruck, and Mary Lynn Rajskub will be added to the dream lineup led by Amanda Seyfried, who plays the main role of Elizabeth Holmes.

The Dropout is based on the true story of the Theranos corporation and Elizabeth Holmes. The series begins its focus on Holmes, who drops out of Stanford University in order to create one of the most promising companies of all time. Her idea of a revolutionary blood test lures investors, the medical community, and business leaders with its promised technology. Holmes secures massive amounts of venture capital, a reputable Board of Directors unparalleled in corporate history, and lucrative contracts with hospital systems, only to discover the technology doesn’t work. The story of how that fragile deck of cards comes down is the focus of the limited series.

Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why) plays Tyler Shultz, grandson of Secretary of State George Shultz, who is on the Board of Directors; Bashir Salahuddin (Top Gun Maverick) plays Brendan Morris, an electrical engineer at Theranos; Rajskub will play Lorraine Fuisz, wife to William H. Macy’s Richard Fuisz; and Alan Ruck (Succession, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) plays a Walgreens executive who believes the promise of the product’s potential payout for his company.

Truth is stranger than fiction, as Elizabeth Holmes is no stranger to corporate collapse — her father was Vice President of Enron, a company embroiled in its own fraud scandal. In real life, Elizabeth Holmes is awaiting trial on federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges, which is set to begin at the end of August 2021.

Liz Meriwether is the series creator, showrunner, and executive producer via Searchlight Television and Disney Television Studios’ 20th Television. Michael Showalter is also executive producer and will direct multiple episodes. The Dropout is adapted from the ABC News/ABC Podcast of the same name.

Also joining the cast are Hart Bochner, James Hiroyuki Liao, Nicky Endres, Camryn Mi-Young Kim, and Andrew Leeds. Several other names attached to the project are Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Stephen Fry, Michel Gill, Michael Ironside, Bill Irwin, and Josh Pais.

We can’t wait to see this ensemble take on this gripping and unfolding story with these larger-than-life characters.
