Working Title has optioned the film rights for Ruth Ware’s thriller novel The Turn of the Key. Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Jamie Bell (Rocketman) will pen the screenplay. Deadline was the first to report.

The Turn of the Key follows a young woman who answers an ad for a live-in nanny at a “high-tech ‘smart’ house in the Scottish Highlands.” Though the house and family seem picture-perfect, all is not as it appears.

The film will mark Bell’s screenwriting debut. This will be Minghella’s third screenplay, following The 9th Life of Louis Drax and Teen Spirit. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title will produce. Amelia Granger and Alexandra Loewy will oversee the project.

There is currently no director attached. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
