Netflix has renewed the series Shadow and Bone after a successful first season! The show is currently in the Netflix top ten list in 93 countries and the number one show in 79 countries including the U.S. market.
In a video published on Shadow and Bone social media accounts, the stars of the show announced the season 2 pick up. “Your Summoning Powers worked,” states actor Kit Young (Jesper Fehey). For those who are familiar with the show, Summoning Powers are a key story component in this fantasy series. The cast in the video features the main characters originally from the two book series, Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows both authored by Leigh Bardugo. Returning cast includes Jessie Mei (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar).
Shadow and Bone is set in the Grishaverse, where war breaks out between the nations Ravka, Fjerda, and Shu Han. There is also a divide between those who are Grisha born with magical powers, and those who do not manifest magic. The heroine in the series is Alina Starkov (Jesse Mei Li), an orphaned soldier who discovers that she has magical powers as the Sun Summoner. The foretold Sun Summoner can tame the Shadow Fold which is a dark force that separates nations. Through the series, Starkov must learn how to hone her Grisha skills and uncover the true evil that causes the Shadow Fold. Starkov journeys to find herself and learns the most important skill which is deciphering friend from foe.
Eric Heisserer (Bird Box) serves as creator, writer, and director of the adaptation. The series is produced by Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps Entertainment (Stranger Things). Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment company has produced many series for Netflix including Unsolved Mysteries and the upcoming family limited series Lost Ollie.
