AWARDSACADEMY AWARDSElvira Lind's 'The Letter Room' Starring Oscar Isaac Receives Oscar Nomination!

The nominations for the 93rd annual Academy Awards have arrived! Making the list of nominees for the Best Live-Action Short Film category is The Letter Room, a dark comedy written and directed by Elvira Lind (Bobbi Jene, Songs for Alexis).

The film follows the secret life of Richard (Oscar Isaac), a corrections officer that’s transferred to a job in the letter room. Richard is a kind yet curious man who lives a relatively simple existence, until a new world suddenly opens up to him as he finds himself increasingly involved in a prisoner’s deeply private affairs. The Letter Room also stars Alia Shawkat, John Douglas Thompson, Eileen Galindo, and Brian Petsos.

This is a beautiful and thought-provoking short film, one that sets the stage for important conversations about the prison system and the lives of those that are incarcerated. It explores themes of loneliness, heartbreak, love, and the driving forces of human nature.

Other contenders in this category include Feeling Through, The Present, Two Distant Strangers, and White Eye.
