Netflix has announced several cast members that are set to join the Matilda musical adaptation.

Matilda, based on the novel by Roald Dahl, tells the story of a young girl who is mistreated by her parents and at school by the evil headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. However, Matilda loves to read and is encouraged by her delightful teacher, Miss Honey. Matilda’s fortunes begin to change when she discovers that she has the power of telekinesis.

Emma Thompson (Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility) has been cast as the film’s villain, Miss Trunchbull. She joins Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, No Time to Die), who has been cast as Miss Honey, and newcomer Alisha Weir who has been cast in the title role of Matilda. The movie will be directed by Matthew Warchus (Pride, Simpatico).

Although the story reached popularity in the 1996 movie of the same name, starring Mara Wilson, the Netflix movie will be based on the Tony award-winning musical. The musical has an amazing soundtrack with music and lyrics by Australian comedian and actor, Tim Minchin. We can’t wait to learn more about this project!
