Today was a big news day for fans of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise, as it was announced that not only will the next film be delayed, but Johnny Depp is exiting the series. The Fantastic Beasts series is a prequel to J.K. Rowling’s ever-popular Harry Potter series and is expected to include five films, the first two of which are already out and available on DVD and Blu-ray. The third film was set to be released in November of 2021, but following the announcement of Johnny Depp’s exit, the film has been pushed back to July 15, 2022.

In a letter Depp posted to his Instagram page, he announced that he was asked to resign from his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts films and that he will be respecting that request.
