Oscar Isaac, Tracie Thoms, and More to Perform ‘Antigone in Ferguson’ for Theater of War Productions
As a part of the 6th Annual Michael Brown Memorial Weekend in honor of the life of Michael Brown Jr., Theater of War Productions — a company that presents community-specific, theater-based projects that address pressing public health and social issues — has announced a special performance of Antigone in Ferguson.
Conceived in the wake of Michael Brown’s death in 2014, Antigone in Ferguson is a collaboration between Theater of War Productions and community members from Ferguson, MO.
As per Theater of War,
‘Antigone in Ferguson’ fuses a dramatic reading by leading actors of Sophocles’ ‘Antigone‘ with live choral music performed by a choir of activists, police officers, youth, and concerned citizens from Ferguson and New York City.
Performers will include Oscar Isaac, Tracie Thoms, Ato Blankson Wood, Willie Woodmore, Marjolaine Goldsmith, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, De-Rance Blaylock, and Duane Martin Foster and the Antigone in Ferguson Choir.
This performance is meant to incite panel and audience-driven discussions about radicalized violence, structural oppression, misogyny, gender violence, and social justice. After the cast performs the play, four community panelists will open up a dialogue, and then the audience will have the opportunity to participate as well.
This free event will take place via Zoom on August 9 at 7:30 p.m. CST/8:30 p.m. EST. You can register here.
