Oscar Isaac to Star in and Produce ‘Ex Machina’ Adaption ‘The Great Machine’
Oscar Isaac and Ex Machina … sounds a bit familiar, right? However, this news has nothing to do with the 2015 sci-fi film about artificial intelligence.
The Ex Machina we’re referring to is a comic book series created by Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris, which was in publication from 2004 through 2010, that follows the life of Mitchell Hundred. In the series, Mitchell (aka The Great Machine) is the world’s first and only superhero, and he’s also the mayor of New York City.
As exclusively shared by The Hollywood Reporter, Isaac is set to star in and produce the upcoming adaption of the comic book series, which will be titled The Great Machine. He will portray the role of the aforementioned superhero and mayor, Mitchell Hundred.
In addition to the irony of Isaac’s previous role in the unrelated Ex Machina movie, fans will also remember that he portrayed Yonkers, New York Mayor Nick Wasicsko in HBO’s Show Me a Hero. Add in his experience on the other side of the superhero spectrum as villain Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse, and you’ve got the perfect storm from Isaac for this next role of his to be an absolute hit.
The Great Machine will be written for Legendary Entertainment by Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel, most recently known for their work on the drama film Seberg.
