“Once upon a time. The end of the world was our beginning.”

The Walking Dead family is getting bigger. A third series is being added to the infamous zombie franchise on AMC in 2020.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is going to focus on the first generation that grew up in the zombie apocalypse. In this coming-of-age story, some grow up to be moral, and others, not so much. The first season will be ten episodes long, with the pilot episode being titled ā€œBrave.ā€

Scott Gimple created the new series with Matt Negrete, a long-time TWD writer, and will also be the series showrunner. Time frame-wise, it has been ten years since the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, so it does meet up with the other two series’ timings as well. Which makes me wonder if we will see any character crossovers or meetings?

On the AMC website, David Madden, president of programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios said:

ā€œWeā€™re thrilled that the Dead will keep walking into a new corner of the post-apocalyptic world, a corner that will present stories and characters unlike any that The Walking Dead has dramatized thus far, and that is bound to excite one of the most passionate fan bases in television. Scott has been an invaluable leader for the Universe since taking on the role of the chief content officer, with a distinct and innovative vision for the franchise. Likewise, weā€™re excited to have Matt, who has been a crucial part of The Walking Dead family for over five years and penned many memorable episodes of TWD, at the helm of this original series.ā€

So far, for casting, these are the characters that have been announced: Aliyah Royale as Iris, Annet Mahendru as Huck, Alexa Mansour as Hope, Nicolas Cantu as Elton, Hal Cumpston as Silas, Nico Tortorella as Felix, Joe Holt as Dr. Raymond Campbell, and Christina Marie Karis as Kari with more to be added.
