As the hours count down to the season 10 premiere this weekend, AMC has announced that The Walking Dead will be returning for an 11th season next year. If the early renewal wasn’t enough to surprise fans, they also got the news that Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, will be returning as a series regular in season 11.
Viewers last saw Maggie in season nine as the leader of The Hilltop. She mysteriously disappeared leaving her community to appoint a new leader and fight off the season’s newest big bad, The Whisperers. Maggie’s whereabouts and reasons for her departure were vague, leaving fans hopeful that Lauren Cohan would eventually return to the show.
Maggie won’t be returning just yet, but in the meantime, fans will get to see their current favorites come together to fight off The Whisperers in season 10 which premiers October 6 on AMC.
