In May 2019 eleven individuals were named for the D23 Disney Legends honor in August.

The inductees announced at that time were Wing Chao, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, Kenny Ortega, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer.  You can read more about these eleven inductees in the original Nerds & Beyond post here.

Grammy award winner Christina Aguilera has been named as an additional inductee for the Disney Legend honors!

Christina became a part of the Disney family professionally when she joined The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a Mouseketeer for the 6th and 7th Seasons in 1993 and 1994. In 1998, she continued the Disney relationship by performing “Reflection” for the Mulan soundtrack.  The following year, at the age of 18, Christina peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and had three chart-topping singles from her debut self-titled album: “Genie In A Bottle,” “What A Girl Wants,” and “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You).”

She won her first Grammy in 1999 for Best New Artist.  She later starred in the movie Burlesque and has been a judge on the hit show The Voice.

The Disney Legends award that is given to each inductee has three distinct elements: The Spiral, The Hand, and The Wand and The Star.  These elements characterize the contributions made by the recipients to the Disney History.  Imagination is represented by the Spiral, skill, discipline and craftsmanship is represented by the Hand, and magic is represented by the Wand and the Star.  A new dream is created when imagination and skill combine! (More information can be found here.)

The awards ceremony will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 23rd at 10:30am in Hall D23. Bob Iger (Disney Chairman and CEO) will host. Admission to the ceremony is included in the price of the D23 Expo and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can purchase a one-day D23 Expo ticket for $89/adult or $69/child.
